Name something in the workplace that decreases stress, enables a longer stay when needed to meet a deadline, boosts morale and employee retention, and improves collaboration.

Maybe you guessed open offices or pay raises or team building exercises, but you’d be wrong. What achieves all that—and more—is actually having pets in the office.

Turns out as we increase our percentage of pet ownership in this country, we want to keep our animals with us. And although the increase is ever so small, more and more of us are able to bring our pets to work with us—and reap all those benefits too.

There are lots of big-name employers, such as Google, that have some dog-friendly policies in place already. But before you jump with all four paws into such an arrangement, it’s helpful to know what you need to do and what policies are helpful to have in place. This graphic explains it.
